Dell Inspiron Series

The Inspiron is Dell’s most popular consumer laptop line, and we see a lot of these so we know the problems that are common with all models. Common issues include broken hinges (especially on 15″ models), cracked screens, and dead batteries. We stock parts for most Inspiron models for quick same-day repairs.

Vostro Series by Dell

Dell Inspiron Hinge Problems

The number one issue we see with Dell Inspiron Laptops is hinge failure. When you open your Dell Inspiron, the plastic surrounding the mounting points cracks and breaks off, which happens mainly to the 15″ versions of the Inspiron. If you notice the plastic breaking off near the hinges, or if you hear cracking each time you open your laptop, please get this fixed right away. Is it shutting down randomly? Does the fan seem like a jet engine? Why Dell Laptops Are Worth Repairing

• Has Core i5 or i7 processor (or Ryzen 5/7)

Dell XPS – Almost Always Worth Repairing

XPS laptops are premium machines with excellent specs. Even a 4-5 year old XPS 13 or 15 is still a fast, quality laptop. Unless the motherboard is dead, it’s usually worth repairing. A $300 screen replacement on an XPS is way better than buying a $2,000 replacement.

Dell Latitude – Definitely Worth Repairing

Business-grade laptops are built to last. We regularly repair 6-7 year old Latitudes that still have years of life left. These are tanks—repair them and keep using them.

When Replacement Makes More Sense:

• Laptop is 7+ years old with multiple failing components
• Motherboard is dead and repair cost exceeds 60% of replacement
• Old Celeron or Pentium processor that are now out dated
• You’ve been wanting to upgrade anyway
• Need to upgrade to win 11 but laptop will not allow this.

Dell Laptop Upgrade Options

Sometimes your Dell doesn’t need repair—it needs an upgrade to feel fast again:

SSD Upgrade (Highly Recommended)

This is the single most significant upgrade for any Dell laptop that uses a mechanical Hard Disk Drive. Installing an SSD in your Dell laptop will cause your device to boot in seconds versus minutes and programs will load instantly. Overall, installing an SSD will cause your device to operate much faster and smoother. Cost: $180-$300 including the SSD. This upgrade greatly enhances the performance of older Inspiron and Latitude devices.

RAM Upgrade

If your Dell laptop contains only 4GB of RAM and you are operating with Windows 10/11, you are constantly running out of memory. Adding additional RAM to bring the total to 8GB or 16GB will greatly enhance the multi-tasking ability of your laptop. Cost: $100-$200 including RAM.

Note: Some newer Dell XPS and Inspiron models have soldered RAM and cannot be upgraded. We will determine whether or not your specific model can be upgraded.

Cooling System Maintenance

If your Dell laptop is 3+ years old and has never had its cooling system properly cleaned, cleaning the cooling system and replacing the thermal paste will result in your laptop running cooler and quieter. We recommend this maintenance procedure for all older Dell laptops. Cost: $120-$150.

Common Dell Error Messages We Fix

If You are Seeing one of these errors on your Dell laptop?

• “No Boot Device Available” – Usually means your hard drive has failed or isn’t being detected. We can recover your data and replace the drive. There is always the chance that your settings in the bios are wrong and the laptop can not find the drive, in this case we can adjust the bios settings.
• “Operating System Not Found” – Similar to above, or could be a corrupted Windows installation. We’ll diagnose the problem and let you know if it is a software or hardware problem.
• “Internal Hard Disk Drive Not Found” – Your hard drive has failed or come loose. This could also be related to the no boot device issue.
• “Battery Not Detected” – Could be a dead battery or faulty charging circuit. If you bring your Dell Laptop and charger we can then diagnose the fault as sometimes the chargers on a Dell Laptop do not give the correct current to the battery and the battery will not charge even though it will switch on.
• “Thermal Event Exceeded” – Your Dell is overheating, your laptop will either need the cooling system cleaned or possibly a fan replacement. Sometimes the fan can make a noise and this can be something broken internally that has got into your fan and is a cheap easy fix.
• Blue Screen errors (various) – Could be RAM, hard drive, drivers, or Windows corruption, this problem is never a simple fix but we can diagnose and find the cause or fault.
