For many years, blogging has been all the rage whether it is content creation of any kind (podcasts, videos, blog posts, graphic designing, travel guides, recipes) or other types of digital work, a MacBook is preferred over all standard laptops. There are many reasons why a MacBook is the ultimate machine (especially for bloggers who travel a great deal) but the real question is whether the MacBook Pro is more suitable or the Air.
What MacBook Air is All About
The MacBook Air is a bit more cost-effective model than the Pro (13-inch MacBook Air starting from $1499 (Includes GST)). It has also consistently been getting thinner and more portable when compared with its older versions which is not surprising, and this plays well into the blogger lifestyle.
The MacBook Air performs well on multiple fronts, from storage to processing speed especially given the fact that it is the cheapest option if you are looking to get a MacBook laptop device for blogging and content creation.
13-inch MacBook Air basic version comes packed with Apple M1 chip with 8‑core CPU (3.5× faster than the previous generation), 7‑core GPU and 16‑core Neural Engine. 8GB unified memory and 256GB of SSD storage. This is good enough computing power for most usage scenarios.
Suited for most blogger, you also get a better battery life (up to 18 hours battery life) which is very important for those who create content on the go. While MacBook Air standard version may be adequate for most use case scenarios, when you want more power and speed, 16‑inch MacBook Pro does stand out.
MacBook Pro is for Professional Creators
The MacBook Pro comes at a heftier price tag (MacBook Pro 13″ starts from A$1,899 (Including GST)) but with 2TB Maximum configurable storage, how can you run out of space? To begin with, this gives more room for video makers, graphic designers, or any bloggers that need that extra boost for running multiple software simultaneously as well as saving work often.
The new MacBook Pro also has an array of impressive extra features like ‘True Tone’ technology feature, sensors that measure the ambient light colour and brightness. That means, the screen changes colour to blend with the environment. It also has a touchscreen next to the keyboard to provide easier access, 4 USB ports, and not to mention much larger speakers and better audio power than its counterpart the MacBook Air.
The increased features do however mean that the MacBook Pro naturally has a shorter battery life span (especially if you are viewing or editing video often). The MacBook however is better for post designing and video editing functions simply because it has a larger and more vibrant display.
For bloggers or freelancers that spend most of their day on their laptops, this increased space and more comfortable display can be a blessing. The Pro also has greater overall performance speed so it can provide relief from slowness when used intensively. All content creators know the importance of computational power for uninterrupted creativity.
On the flip side, the 16″ MacBook Pro is obviously larger and heavier, and for that reason can be harder to travel with. Not to mention it would need to be charged more often making it cumbersome to manage when the owner is frequently travelling.
MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro
Whether you buy a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air is entirely up to your specific needs as a blogger or content creator. Of course, most aspects like storage for example can be updated and adjusted at extra cost, but it is more about the kind of work you want to use your MacBook for that will decide which one is more suitable for you.
