There has been a great debate about Macs and other laptops and the major differences between them. Diehard Apple Mac enthusiasts claim they cannot get by without a Mac and suggest that regular laptop users are oblivious about some of the major benefits of owning an Apple Mac.
The term ‘personal computer’ is a general one to include all computers and laptop models, but mostly applies to devices running on the Windows operating system. While Apple Mac has a loyal following of consumers, they are still a small portion of the overall global computers market.
The Look And Feel
The design of the Apple Mac has certainly evolved over the years and it is clearly distinguishable from regular laptops while most users agree laptops of different manufacturers often look similar to each other.
Even the earlier versions of Apple Mac were much more sleeker in design than their competitors with a distinct candy colour that immediately made them stand out. Apple has always followed a holistic model for design which has been vital for maintaining their brand image as ‘cool’ and pleasing to say the least.
The Specifications and Parts are a Major Difference in Apple Mac Laptops
Apple Macs and non-apple laptop models have some distinct technical differences. Both types of computers have hard drives, RAM, and processors but they vary according to how much speed they can operate at, the capacity that can be expected, and overall longevity. Macs are of course far ahead of low-end laptop models but can easily outperform fairly high-end laptops as well.
Apple Mac has invested decades of research and development into creating extremely high-quality parts and components which accounts for the phenomenal longevity of their devices as well.
Macs have superior processors in comparison with most laptops but can sometimes fall short in terms of RAM or hard disk space with their high-end laptop counterparts. Apple USB SuperDrive, video output, USB ports are comparable with any higher end laptop out there.
Leading the arena or innovation, Apple Inc. With the latest MacBook range still continues to up-the-game with its latest M1 Chip consisting 16 billion transistors. When we think about that number of transistors fitted on to a tiny chip, that is an accomplishment in itself. Such innovations pave the way of Artificial Intelligence of the future. Because Apple Mac’s M1 Chip can perform up to 11 trillion operations per second. And that is only in the year 2021
The Price Point Does Differ When Buying a Mac Laptop
Price is the main determinant that makes the Apple Mac more of a niche product accounting only for less than 5% of the global computers and laptops market. Apple Macs are rarely less than a $1000 Australian dollars (even if they are second-hand) while many laptops (new and or used) can easily be purchased within that budget.
Macs cost more because of the quality of their components not necessarily due to their specifications being superior to every other laptop out there. Many Apple users say they have had their Macs for 10 years or more while regular laptops usually last best under 5 years the most before needing repairs.
It is also worth mentioning that consumer requirements are also a major determinant of the end price as different users need various software packages and they may cost more to install inside a MacBook. Users that do graphic designing or video editing for example require a huge amount of hard drive space and RAM which again costs more to augment in an Apple Mac. Apple Macs are still widely preferred by some professionals although most people only need to browse or type documents and may not want to spend large amounts of money buying a Mac.
One critical downfall within the macOS Operating system and Microsoft Operating System for the end users were (and still is) the compatibility of software between devices using either one of the operating system. For example: if your colleague sends you a Microsoft Office Excel document, how can you open it up using Apple Mac vice-versa with software designed to work on macOS.
Although there are programs that can be installed as a workaround, its still a nuisance that is still not yet resolves for us all end-users of laptop computers.
Good to Knows About Apple
